Theoretical study of Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) in polymer optical fibres

چکیده
We present the modelling of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in graded index polymer fibres made with fluoropolymer CYTOPr(Cyclic Transparent Optical Polymer). Comparison of SBS in silica and polymer optical fibres is presented. What emerges is that polymer-based fibre sensors require, compared to silica-fibres sensors, higher power sources (in the order of Watts). The innovative aspect of this work is first the ”polymer” characteristics of the material.

Comprehensive Theoretical Study on Threshold Power of Stimulated Brillouin Scattering in Single-Mode Fibers
We have investigated and developed a theoretical approach to explore stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) phenomena in single mode fiber. SBS happening threshold power condition has been studied in terms of fiber parameters and input pump power. To assess threshold power precisely, the pump depletion effect and fiber loss has been included by employing 1% criterion. The threshold exponential g...
متن کاملStimulated Brillouin Scattering Characterization and Slow Light Generation Technique in Modern Optical Fibres
Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is a recent technique developed to generate slow light in optical fibres. It is the simplest and most applicable method of slow light production. In this paper a high power laser pump was used to provide the Brillouin gain of a low power signal of -10 dBm. Three single mode fibres namely, standard fibre (STD), large area fibre (LA) and reduced slope fibre (...

In the present work, a theoretical analysis of the first-order of stimulatedBrillouin scattering (SBS) in a double-clad (DC) ytterbium (Yb)-doped silica fiber laserin unidirectional pumping mode is presented. An accurate simulation for calculating SBS nonlinearity is performed by considering thecoupled differential rate equations for pump, signal and Stokes powers, as wel...
متن کاملFormal selection rules for Brillouin scattering in integrated waveguides and structured fibers.
We derive formal selection rules for Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) in structured waveguides. Using a group-theoretical approach, we show how the waveguide symmetry determines which optical and acoustic modes interact for both forward and backward SBS. We present a general framework for determining this interaction and give important examples for SBS in waveguides with rectangular, trian...
متن کاملUnique characteristic features of stimulated Brillouin scattering in small-core photonic crystal fibers
We present extensive stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) results from experiments and modeling for four different photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with core diameters ranging from 8 to 1.7 m. These results reveal several SBS characteristic features of small-core PCFs, high thresholds, and acoustic peaks, which are due to their antiguiding nature and highly multimode acoustic character. The natu...
